This eating method aims to provide the body with a break from inflammatory and gut-damaging foods.

Eliminating certain foods can restore gut health and hormone balance. When approached correctly, nutrition is a valuable tool in reducing inflammation throughout the body.

Providing the body with the proper fuel prevents the accumulation of toxins and gut-damaging foods.

This elimination diet aims to mend the gut lining, rejuvenate the gut microbiome (the equilibrium of living organisms in our gut), pacify inflammation throughout the body, and determine if you have any food sensitivities (or food groups).

It is essential to monitor your symptoms closely throughout this procedure.

Food allergies and intolerances

Food allergies and intolerances can cause adverse reactions in our bodies. It's hard to differentiate between immune-mediated allergies and non-immune-mediated intolerances, which can lead to confusion. This can result in people following incorrect diets needing more essential nutrients. It's important to identify the reactions to avoid nutritional deficiencies correctly. Identifying food intolerances and sensitivities can be challenging because they can manifest in various symptoms.

Food intolerances and food allergies are not the same, although they may share some symptoms.

When you have a food intolerance, symptoms usually appear within a few hours of consuming the food you are intolerant to. However, symptoms can be delayed by up to 48 hours and can last for hours or even days, making it challenging to identify the offending food.

They usually affect the digestive system, skin, and respiratory system. Common symptoms include diarrhea, bloating, rashes, headaches, nausea, fatigue, abdominal pain, runny nose, reflux, and flushing of the skin.

There are two main types of true food allergies:

1. IgE-mediated:

In this type, your immune system produces IgE antibodies that react with specific foods.

An IgE-mediated allergic reaction usually occurs within a few hours of consuming the food allergen and can range from mild to severe symptoms, including anaphylaxis.

2. Non-IgE mediated:

  • In this type, your immune system doesn't produce IgE antibodies, but other parts of the immune system respond to the perceived threat and may appear up to three days after consuming the food allergen.

You can see symptoms related to the skin

  • Rash.
  • Itching.
  • Redness.
  • Swelling.
  • Raised bumps.
  • Scaling (flaking of skin)

And you can see symptoms related to the digestive system:

  • vomiting, nausea and diarrhea
